Function
Cardiotoxin (CTX) is a snake toxin from the Taiwan cobra Naja naja. The cardiotoxin from the Malayan krait is called bucain. CTX perturb the membrane structure of cells by interaction with lipids. [1] For toxins in Proteopedia see Toxins.
Relevance
Cardiotoxin I causes necrosis of skeletal muscle cells. Cardiotoxin III induces apoptosis in K562 cells.
