1aoi, or the complex between nucleosome core particle (H3,h4,h2a,h2b) and 146 BP long DNA fragment, was originally found in the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis).
Protein Structure
The protein 1aoi is made up of 418 amino acids. It is made up of four pairs of polypeptides: , , , and . Alpha helices of all four core histones generate a positive charge, essential to the function of the protein.
Function
The function of this protein is to control transcription by wrapping DNA around the histones which blocks transcription. This is also done to wrap up DNA into the chromosomes.
Significance
This histone complex is used in DNA binding and initiating DNA-templated transcription. It plays a major role in transcription control. The significance of this protein is that it is within a common testing organism, the African Clawed frog.
