Scene transitions

When transitioning between two scenes, the molecule is shown in a new orientation and with new drawing elements. The way a transition between two scenes occurs (i.e. when you click on a green link) depends on the settings in the new scene. If the zoom out effect is selected, the old scene zooms out to get all atoms into the view (whether shown or not?), then switches to the new drawing elements, and finally zooms in to the second scene. If the transition is turned off, the scene (after some loading) instantly switches to the new scene.

What you do depends on this decision tree

  • Are you switching from one structure to another?
    • Yes: there is no good way of showing a transition, so it should just show the new scene without transition
    • No: there should be a smooth transition. Next question: are the scenes detailed or overall views?
      • Detailed view to overall view: zoom out, switch view
      • Detailed view to detailed view: transition directly but slowly
      • Overall view to detailed view: switch view, zoom in
      • Overall view to overall view: smooth transition without zoom
