Cardiotoxin

Function
Cardiotoxin (CTX) is a snake toxin from the Taiwan cobra Naja naja. The cardiotoxin from the Malayan krait is called bucain. CTX perturb the membrane structure of cells by interaction with lipids. For toxins in Proteopedia see Toxins.
Relevance
Cardiotoxin I causes necrosis of skeletal muscle cells. Cardiotoxin III induces apoptosis in K562 cells.
